Telia Denmark is bringing in a new set-top with its streaming customers in mind.
The pure OTT box comes with a LAN port and is based on the popular Telia TV app.
“Telia wants to give its customers the freedom to choose and make it as simple as possible to be a customer. That is why we now collect streaming and television in one and the same box,” said Gustav Berghog, director of residential customers at Telia.
In addition to Telia TV, the Arris-branded box grants access to streaming services from HBO and C More with discounts for Telia mobile and broadband customers, though there is no requirement to take broadband from Telia.
“If you go to a supermarket, you will not be refused to buy yoghurt if you do not buy six litres of milk at the same time. There is an inconvenience among Danish TV providers. Therefore, you may not necessarily be Telia’s Internet customer to access Telia TV and the new TV box. We have many TV customers who either have employer-paid internet or live in a housing association where they can not freely choose an ISP.”
Telia was first to launch an OTT service in Denmark and the Telia TV app for the Apple TV box remains popular. Customers can also access the service via Chromecast.
Priced at DKr99, Telia TV is the telco’s cheapest TV option. The set-top is also in use with Telia in Sweden and Finland.
