IPTV boosts Rostelecom numbers

November 2, 2018 09.00 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Rostelecom ended the third quarter with 10.1 million subscribers to its pay-TV services, or 4% more than a year earlier.

Of these, 5.1 million (+9% year-on-year) opted for its IPTV offer. The Russian incumbent also enjoyed growth in other segments.

Its internet subscriber total stood at 13 million (+1%) at the end of Q3, with the overwhelming majority (12 million, +1% year-on-year) being B2C customers.

At the same time, it had 1.1 million (+58%) MVNO subscribers. On the other hand, its local telephony services saw a 9% dip in subscriber numbers in the year to September 30, down to 17.8 million.

Rostelecom had revenues of R79,414 million – €1,061.8 million (+5%) in Q3, with TV services accounting for R8,655 million (+27%) of the total. The telco’s OIBDA in Q3 was R27,330 million (+9%) and it had a net income of R5,703 million (+46%).

In his comments on the result, Sergei Anokhin, senior VP and CFO said: “The multimedia platform Wink was added to our private client ecosystem, marking an evolutionary stage in the development of IPTV, which is today popular among millions of families across the entire country. Wink is a truly comprehensive platform, comprising of a mobile app, a website and a Smart TV app, with extremely user-friendly functionality, more than 200 TV channels and more than 12 thousand films and episodes already available to Rostelecom’s clients, as well as a set of value added services including NPVR and Parental control options”.
