TV2, one of Hungary’s two main commercial broadcasters, is likely to find itself under new ownership within a matter of weeks.
According to several recent reports in the local media, including BBJ, it will be taken over by the billionaire investor Lörinc Mészáros from the Hollywood producer Andy Vajna through Opus Press, one of the largest companies he owns.
Furthermore, TV2’s CEO Dirk Gerkens is set to leave the broadcaster by the end of the year.
Although TV2 has growing revenues, it also posted losses of HUF2 billion (€6.19 million) in both 2016 and 2017.
Lörinc Mészáros has close links with Hungary’s PM Viktor Orbán.
As previously reported by Broadband TV News, Vajna took over T2 in late 2015.
