Over two-thirds (69.2%) of Russian viewers use PCs to watch professional video content such as movies and TV shows online.
At the same time, according to the findings of a study undertaken by J’son & Partners and published by AKTR and adindex.ru, 34.1% use smartphones and 24.8% smart TVs.
In the case of smart TV owners the situation is reversed, with smart TVs being used by 69.9% to view such content. Over half (53.9%) use PCs/laptops and 32% smartphones.
The study, which was undertaken in March this year in cities with populations over 100,000, also says that the number of smart TVs in Russia will rise from 21.5 million this year to 33.6 million in 2021.
Importantly, it found little difference between the online video viewing habits of smart TV users from the wider population.
Around a quarter (25.1%) of viewers as a whole watch online videos every day (29% of smart TV users), 43% and 45% respectively several times a week, 21% and 19% several times a month, 6% and 4% less than once a month and 5% and 3% less often than once every three months.
