The number of quintuple packages in Spain amounted to 11.98 million as of the end of the first quarter, according to data published by the regulator CNMC.
This was 600,000 more than a year earlier, with the increase being driven almost entirely by quintuple packages, the number of which grew to 5.6 million.
Meanwhile, the number of pay-TV subscribers in Spain stood at 6.7 million as of the end of Q1. TV services delivered by IP technology accounted for almost two-thirds of the total (4.2 million) and added 670,000 subscribers in the year to March 31. On the other hand, the number of DTH and cable TV subscribers fell by 95,000 and almost 90,000 respectively in the same period.
The number of fixed broadband connections at the end of Q1 stood at 14.6 million. Of these 9.9 million, or 1.8 million more than a year earlier, had a contracted speed on 30Mbps or higher.
Significantly, of these 9.9 million lines, 43% had a contracted speed of 100Mbps or more.
Although the overwhelming majority of fixed broadband lines (90.6%) were provided by the three main operators, this was 2.5 percentage points less than in Q1 2017.
