Apple is said to be discussing the possibility of offering its Apple TV box to customers of the BT-owned EE, according to a report in the Daily Telegraph.
The telco is running the EE business, in particular its TV platform, separate from the YouView-based BT TV. EE currently supplies customers with a set-top from the French manufacturer Netgem.
The Telegraph says the Apple TV box would come pre-loaded with apps that would deliver both its own BT Sport and third party channels.
The format is similar to that offered by the Swiss operator SALT, which also runs on the Apple TV box, through a solution provided through Zattoo.
SALT’s Apple TV box works with operator login, the first time in Europe, enabling automatic installation of the Salt TV and Salt Video applications. This also applies for iOS devices. Salt customers do not have to enter any login data.
Its TV line-up contains more than 300 channels including 150 in HD quality and Ultra HD (4K) services. Extensive pay-TV packages are also available as part of agreements with Sky and Canal+.
Approached by Broadband TV News, BT declined to comment.
