Netflix has emerged as the most popular streaming service for children’s and family content in the Swedish TV market, knocking public broadcaster SVT Play into second place.
Stockholm-based consultancy Mediavision says it is a similar story across Scandinavia. Its soon to be published analysis Inventory Insight makes clear that not only is Netflix the strongest contender within the kids genre, but its content library also dwarfs almost every other service in Scandinavia.
However, while Denmark mirrors Sweden with public broadcaster DR kicked into second place, Norway’s NRK is able to hold its own. Here Netflix doesn’t have the largest library in the market. Instead NRK has double that of its US rival.
The situation could change in 2019 when Disney launches its own streaming service and has the potential to give Netflix a run for its money.
