Canal Digital launches download service

October 3, 2018 00.21 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Canal Digital is launching a new service that allows subscribers to watch content offline.

From Thursday customers of the Nordic platform will be able to download content from Fox+, Disney, BBC, Discovery and Paramount+ to their portable devices, for later viewing.

It’s the latest initiative from the Telenor-owned platform as it looks to bridge the gap with popular streaming services like Netflix.

“We work hard to provide our customers with the best TV offering, whether it’s at home or on the go. By launching offline and allowing our customers to download the content they love, they get an even more flexible TV product,” said Tone Krohn Clausen, Canal Digital’s chief product & digital officer. “We expect offline will be very well received, as we know many customers want to be able to bring their favorite series and films with them, without always needing to be online.”

The launch of offline coincides with autumn holidays in Scandinavia as customers head out on the road.

Canal Digital customers can use the offline functionality within Canal Digital apps from October 3. Accessing the functionality requires that customers update their Canal Digital app via Google Play or App Store.

Canal Digital offers around 100 channels to its 840,000 subscribers.
