Liberty Global joins HomeGrid Forum

October 2, 2018 11.11 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Liberty Global has become the latest member of the HomeGrid Forum Alliance, alongside other service providers including AT&T, BT, CenturyLink, China Telecom and Verizon.

Liberty Global has previously partnered with HomeGrid Forum Member Comtrend and Board Member MaxLinear to deploy a Wi-Fi extender solution that leverages G.hn technology. The G.hn standard provides a reliable wired backhaul for Wi-Fi extenders and delivers improved Wi-Fi speeds in rooms far away from the residential gateway. The Wi-Fi extender solutions have been deployed in a number of Liberty Global subsidiaries since 2015 including Telenet in Belgium and Virgin Media in the UK.

With operations in 11 European countries, Liberty Global invests in the infrastructure and digital platforms to deliver market-leading products through next-generation, fibre-based networks that connect more than 22 million customers subscribing to 46 million TV, broadband Internet and telephone services. Liberty Global displayed their “Connect” Ecosystem complete portfolio, including G.hn powered Connect Wi-Fi Boosters at the company’s Annual Tech Summit in Amsterdam on September 19th.

“Industry collaboration is an important component within the Alliance and Liberty Global are true innovators in investing in and enabling seamless home-networking technology,” said Dr. Len Dauphinee, HomeGrid Forum President.

“Liberty Global is a major provider of home networking and we are delighted to welcome them to HomeGrid Forum as we continue to move towards a smart connectivity future.”

“Liberty Global is delighted to be working with HomeGrid Forum and supporting the progress of G.hn technology,” said Peter Joyce, Director of Connectivity CPE Architecture at Liberty Global.

“We look forward to working closely with HomeGrid Forum and improving the future of home networking for our customers.”
