Amazon has announced a new DVR device that makes it possible to watch and record terrestrial TV signals.
Fire TV Recast works with Fire TV streaming media players, Fire TV Edition TVs, or Echo Show devices.
“We are focused on making Fire TV an easy way to watch all the entertainment you love, whether it’s through streaming video services, cable and satellite providers, or even local broadcast stations,” said Marc Whitten, Vice President of Amazon Fire TV. “Now with Fire TV Recast, we’ve made it simpler to find, watch, and record live over-the-air TV at home and on your mobile devices.”
The product is initially being made available in North America, where two models are being made available. Four shows can be recorded at any one time with content streamed to two devices.
Amazon says advanced wireless technology automatically optimises the use of bandwidth on a local network. In addition a companion app makes it possible to view your content on mobile devices.
Alexa on Fire TV and Echo Show devices can then search for shows, browse and schedule recordings, change over-the-air live TV channels, and control playback.
