European films make up 20% of the subscription VOD catalogues, and 85% of European films available on SVOD are non-national.
The European Audiovisual Observatory has just published a free new report analysing the market share of European films in the pay-per-view (TVOD) and subscription VOD (SVOD) markets.
The report, The origin of films in VOD catalogue, was compiled by Christian Grece and Marta Jiménez Pumares. It is available as free download from here.
The report finds that:
– the average iTunes catalogue includes around 24% of EU films of which only 4% are purely national productions;
– the share of EU films on average in Microsoft catalogues is 17%, of which 35% are national productions;
– out of all EU films available on SVOD in Europe, national films represent only 15% vs. 85% for EU non-national films.
