M7 Group’s Antenne TV gets VRT DTT channels

August 30, 2018 09.00 Europe/London By Robert Briel

The M7 Group has reached an agreement with Belgian public broadcaster VRT to distribute its three channels on its DTT pay-TV network Antenna TV.

From December 1, the VRT channels Een (One), Canvas and Ketnet will become part of Antenna TV’s bouquet of channels on the country’s digital terrestrial network (DVB-T2), which retails at €9.95 a month.

In May, VRT announced that it would pull the plug out of its DVB-T broadcasts on December 1, citing “changing media consumption usage.’ According to the broadcaster, just 45,000 people currently use the DTT broadcasts as their means of reception, which costs more than EUR1 million a year to sustain.

“We are pleased to welcome Een, Canvas and Ketnet in our payment offer of Antenna TV”, said Yannick Altruy, Country Manager for Belgium at M7 Group.

“The channels have always been available free of charge via the ether. Now the tv channels of the VRT are going to be part of Antenna TV, so we can offer every Flemish person a complete TV offer via the digital antenna with all their favourite TV channels included. In this way, we can also reduce the cost of transition from the current DVB-T audience to a new and the cheapest TV solution on the market. They only need a new Antenna TV receiver and can continue to use the rest of their current installation.”
