Production has begun on HBO’s first Norwegian original production.
Beforeigners is created by Anne Bjørnstad and Eilif Skodvin, the screenwriting duo behind Lilyhammer.
Nicolai Cleve Broch (Acquitted, Max Manus) and Krista Kosonen (Blade Runner 2049) play the main characters Lars Haaland and Alfhildr.
The series is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Jens Lien (Jonny Vang, The Bothersome Man), and produced by Rubicon TV, part of Endemol Shine Group.
The storyline sees powerful flashes of light occurring in the ocean as people from the past appear. It is not understood how it is possible and those who have appeared, known as the titular Beforeigners have no memory of what transpired,
Viking Alfhildr is teamed with burned-out police officer Lars Haaland as part of the police department’s integration program. While investigating the murder of a woman with Stone Age tattoos, Lars and Alfhildr make unexpected discoveries.
Filming will take place on location in Oslo, with additional shooting in Lithuania. The six episodes will premier in 2019.
Executive Producers for HBO Europe are Hanne Palmquist, Steve Matthews and Antony Root.
Beforeigners will premiere exclusively on HBO Nordic and across HBO Europe territories, and will be available on HBO in the US, including the HBO GO, HBO NOW and HBO On Demand platforms.
