Spain’s Movistar will start offering its viewers content in 4K from September.
According to ADSLZone, the offer on Movistar+ will initially be confined to football and is likely to include coverage of LaLiga on Movistar Partidazo 4K and beIN LaLiga 4K.
However, these channels will only be available to fibre-optic customers as Movistar does not currently offer a satellite receiver capable of showing content in 4K. They will require one launched by the company this May that costs €50 (€100 with installation) and a contract for the Movistar+ fibre-optic service.
Telefónica’s Movistar currently holds the rights to a number of key football competitions including LaLiga Santander, LaLiga 123, Copa del Rey, Champions League, Europa League, Premier League and Bundesliga.
Its competitors Vodafone and Orange already have a number of 4K channels in their offers.
