The first privately owned Polish language TV channel has been launched in Lithuania.
According to Satkurier, Fakty Muzyka Telewizja (FMT) is aimed principally at Lithuanian Poles but also at Lithuanians.
On air from 07.00 to 24.00 daily, it can be received terrestrially in Vilnius, Trakai and Elektrenai, cable nationally and on the free FMT app on smartphones.
Its output currently consists of mostly pre-war Polish films and series, to which will be added Polish post-war films in October. In addition, it includes films aimed at children, as well as sport, music and information programmes, shown in both Polish and Lithuanian. To this will soon be added entertainment and motoring programming, along with content targeting businesses wishing to invest in Poland.
The Polish public broadcaster’s international channel TVP Polonia has been distributed in Lithuania since 1994 and since May this year four other Polish channels (TVP Info, TVP Historia, Nuta TV and Power TV) have been available in the country.
Significantly, Broadband TV News has been informed that FMT is up for sale. Possible buyers could include Cyfrowy Polsat and Discovery.
