A third (34%) of Russians would rather pay for a movie in good quality on the internet rather than watch it for free in poor quality.
Furthermore, according to the findings of a study by the Russian Public Opinion Centre (VCIOM), over a quarter (28%) would be willing to pay between R300 (€4.08) and R500 a month to access sites with licensed films and serials.
A further 9% would find R600-1,500 acceptable, 21% R10-250 and one in five (20%) of the view such services should be free of charge.
VCIOM undertook the study on July 31, questioning 1,000 people aged 18+ over the telephone.
VCIOM also notes that although a law blocking pirate sites initially reduced their viewership by 30%, it has stabilised since February this year.
