Eleven Sports will become the first ever platform to show a live football match on social media in Portugal this weekend. The broadcast will take place on Saturday at 1pm with the live streaming of the Trophée des Champions match between PSG and Monaco on Facebook.
Eleven Sports is set to launch officially in Portugal on August 15 with live action from the UEFA` Super Cup between Real Madrid and Athletico Madrid. Ahead of that date, and in line with Eleven Sports’ ‘For the Fans’ strategy, the platform will stream select matches from France’s Ligue 1 on Facebook.
Pedro Pinto, non-executive director of Eleven Sports Portugal, said: “The fans have been asking us to show the opening matches from Ligue 1 ahead of our launch on August 15. We have listened to them and a found a way to make this work, underlining our agile and innovative approach with the fans at the heart of everything we do.
“By delivering Ligue 1 games on Facebook we are making history, giving fans a first taste of what they can expect from Eleven Sports and the way we approach live coverage of matches.”
A carriage agreement with Nowo means that the operator will distribute Eleven Sports’ channels in Portugal. Furthermore, Nowo is now in negotiations with other carriers to ensure wider access for Eleven Sports. Eleven Sports also plans to launch an OTT service in Portugal.
Eleven Sports has already live streamed Ligue 1 in Poland, Bundesliga in Belgium, Singapore National Soccer in Singapore and ACB Liga Endesa Basketball in five different markets on Facebook.
It has also shown Ivy League Football on Twitter in the US.
