[WATCH VIDEO] Zattoo users in Germany can now pause the currently running TV show for up to 90 minutes and then resume watching it.
The new feature is available to subscribers of the Zattoo Premium and Zattoo Ultimate packages.
“With the live pause we are taking another step towards personalising the TV experience,” said Jörg Meyer, Chief Officer Content and Consumer at Zattoo. “Today’s users want more time flexibility in addition to location-independent TV consumption.”
Technically, the live pause is based on NPVR technology (Network Personal Video Recorder). The TV show is temporarily recorded during the break. The buffered content is deleted as soon as the pause mode is stopped or the viewer switches to another TV channel.
Live pause is available on all platforms, but not yet on Samsung, Xbox and Windows. If a programme is paused, the content can be fast-forwarded within the pause. This feature is, however, not available on all channels for licensing reasons. For example, fast-forwarding paused content is disabled on the channels of Germany’s two largest commercial TV groups RTL and ProSiebenSat.1.
