Comedy Central launches UK VOD app

July 31, 2018 11.30 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Virgin Media subscribers will be among the first to be able to access a new mobile streaming app launched by Comedy Central.

Comedy Central Play will feature the Viacom International Media Networks’ channel’s back-catalogue of short form content. There will also be a selection of full-length episodes on-demand. Popular titles available in the app include The Daily Show, Inside Amy Schumer, Corporate, Takeshi’s Castle, Most Ridiculous and The Roast of Donald Trump.

In May, Virgin TV began offering the Nick Play app.

“Launching the Comedy Central Play app in the UK for the first time is an exciting move for us as it reflects our continued commitment to expanding our branded apps presence in the market,” Arran Tindall, SVP, Commercial and Content Distribution, Viacom International Media Networks said. “We’re pleased to once again be joining forces with Virgin TV to provide their customers with access to long form content on the Comedy Central Play app, giving them the choice and control they desire when viewing their favourite Comedy shows.”

In 2017 Comedy Central achieved its highest-ever audience share. Recent commissions have included Your Face or Mine and Roast Battle UK, which is the highest rating UK commission ever for the channel.
