KPN IPTV growth slows down

July 28, 2018 11.52 Europe/London By Robert Briel

KPN said it has added 10,000 new subscribers to its IPTV service during the 2nd quarter, compared with 25,000 bet additions in the same period last year.

Compared with the first quarter, KPN also added 10,000 IPTV subs. KPN’s share of the digital TV market remained at 32%. The operator now has 2,136,000 TV customers

Meanwhile, subscriptions to its premium-DTT service Digitenne continues to erode. KPN does not issue exact figures for this service anymore, but puts them under ‘other TV services”, which now totals 225,000, down 23,000. We believe the total number of Digitenne homes to be hovering around 200,000.

When KPN launched Digitenne is was marketed as a cheap alternative to cable. Meanwhile, monthly subscription fee has now reached €15.50. As a result, the number of subscribers has dropped a shopping 800,000 during the past few years, with KPN looking to migrate these customers to its IPTV service.

At the moment, KPN is in the middle of a switchover operation for Digitenne, from DVB-T to DVB-T2.

During the second quarter, the incumbent lost 5,000 broadband customers, but ARPU per household advanced 3.9% to €43.
