FTTH deployment assists Telefónica

July 26, 2018 11.43 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Telefónica’s pay-TV customer total grew for a seventh straight quarter in Q2 in its home market Spain.

According to the company’s latest set of results, it stood at 3.9 million as of the end of June, or 7% more than a year earlier and with 8,000 net additions in Q2.

Meanwhile, Telefónica’s Movistar Fusión customer total (4.5 million) grew by 2% year-on-year, with 22,000 net additions, and already accounted for 89% of the total TV base (+5 percentage points year-on-year). Fusión customers with TV rose to 78%, or by 8 percentage point year-on-year, while Fusión ARPU stood at €89.5 (+5.5% year-on-year).

Telefónica notes that growth of its business in Spain was in part down to the continued deployment of its FTTH network. Already passing 20 million premises, it was the largest in Europe.

The Telefónica Group as a whole had revenues of €24,334 million in H1, or -6.7% reported and +2% organic compared to a year earlier).

OIBDA was €8,102 million (-0.9%, +3.7%) and net income €1,739 million ((+8.6% reported).
