Orange, T-Mobile ink “breakthrough” Polish FTTH deal

July 24, 2018 09.21 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

T-Mobile has signed an agreement with the Polish incumbent Orange giving it access to the latter’s FTTH network.

According to Orange Polska, it covers 1.7 million homes that will be reached by the network by the end of this year and as such is a breakthrough agreement for the telecom market in Poland.

Commenting on the development, Jean-Francois Fallacher, the CEO of Orange Polska, said: “The agreement with T-Mobile is the best confirmation of our strategy that fibre-optics will be a key technology for access to the internet in Poland. It will allow faster monetisation of our fibre network by increasing its use. It will also accelerate the adoption of this technology among clients and help popularise convergence, which will be a benefit for the entire Polish telecommunications market. This is the first such agreement in Poland. Currently, over 2.7 million households are within reach of fibre-optics from Orange. We are open to similar cooperation in the use of our network with other operators”.

Under the terms of the deal, T-Mobile Polska will pay Orange Polska an initial PLN275 million (€63.6 million) for access to the network. On top of that, it will pay a monthly fee per customer dependent on the speed of the service and number of years their home has been covered by the network.

The agreement is for a period of 10 years, on the basis of payments received for 50 years provided T-Mobile Polska reaches the established quality for Orange Polska’s customers.

Orange Polska expects its FTTH network to reach 5 million homes by the end of 2020
