Glen Killane has been appointed to the new role of Deputy Director of Sport at the EBU.
Killane was most recently managing director of Eir Sport and Eir Television in Ireland.
He has over 14 years of experience at board level in the media and sports industry. He started his career at RTÉ Sport in 1996 and became Deputy Editor of Sport in 2002, after two years of working for ITV Sport in London.
Glen was RTÉ’s youngest ever Head of Sport when he was appointed in 2004 and spent six years in the role before becoming Manager Director of RTÉ Television, a position he held until 2016 when he moved to Eir.
He said: “I’m very proud to be joining EBU Sport at such an exciting time. The World Cup in Russia is the most recent example of how public service media and sport are intertwined, delivering huge audiences free-to-air and a shared viewer experience that unites the nation. The EBU plays a critical role in sustaining this so I am really excited to be part of its future.”
Glen has excellent knowledge of the EBU and its Members, having served as Vice Chair of the Sport Committee and President of the TV Committee. He will report into Director of Sport Stefan Kürten and will lead the implementation of the EBU’s new sport strategy.
The EBU is currently looking to expand its sports portfolio and widen the scope of rights held.

The changes are part of a wider strategic and structural reshaping of the EBU’s Sport Department which includes the appointment of Franck Choquard, formerly Eurovision Media Services Head of Products and Marketing, as Head of Content and Servicing, focusing on 360° content solutions for EBU sport properties.
