The BBC is to produce dedicated shows for the 13-15 age group in a bid to wean the demographic off Netflix.
The slate of content for the age group has been designed to offer an insight into teenage lives while giving them a platform to express their thoughts on sex education, relationships.
YouTube stars Ali A and Mimi Missfit will appear in the line-up of new shows in a multi-genre mini-slate which includes drama, entertainment and factual content commissioned by Cheryl Taylor, Head of Content, BBC Children’s.
Ali-A will present I’m Not Driving in which drivers who have just passed their tests have their cars revamped in a garage fitted with fixed rig cameras as celebrities drop by. But more than a rebooted Pimp my Ride, each young driver is put through their paces on a personalised advanced driving course, by a charismatic trio of driving instructors.
Cheryl Taylor, Head of Content for BBC Children’s, says: “We have been keen to produce bespoke shows for the 13-15 demographic for some time and the iPlayer affords us the opportunity to publish more ‘rites of passage’ content. These fresh and illuminating formats are aimed fair and square at fun loving and curious teens across the UK”
The shows will be made available as box sets on the BBC iPlayer and will remain on the service beyond the standard 30-day window.
