The Catholic TV channel Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) will make its debut in Poland on October 19.
Quoting Father Piotr Wisniowski, the channel’s DG in Poland, Wirtualne Media reports that it will initially show mostly foreign religious programming, fully localised into Polish, but in due course add locally produced content to its schedule. Targeting a chiefly young audience, it will from the beginning be available in HD over the internet. However, talks are on going with cable operators and EWTN also aims to secure distribution on Poland’s DTH platforms.
Significantly, EWTN already has its own Polish website and social media channels. It is also building a studio in the Silesian city of Wroclaw.
EWTN will be commercial-free and funded solely by donations. Furthermore, it will not compete with the long-established Polish religious channel Telewizja Trwam.
EWTN was launched 36 years ago and claims to be the largest religious media network in the world. Its 11 networks broadcast in multiple languages 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to over 268 million households in over 145 countries and territories.
