Mediaset’s chairman Fedele Confalonieri has called for the creation of a pan-European broadcaster in order to tackle such rivals as Netflix and Vivendi.
Speaking at a shareholders’ AGM and quoted by Reuters, he said that a group such as Mediaset, despite already having a strong presence in Italy and Spain, should still look to expand in Europe.
Meanwhile, Mediaset’s chief executive Pier Silvio Berlusconi has said that while the company is not in talks to form such a broadcaster, it would play a leading role should they arise.
Significantly, he added that Mediaset would not partner with Vivendi.
