Italy’s Fox Sports Channel is to close after its contract with Sky was not renewed.
In a statement Fox said over the last 5 years it had covered sports stories large and small.
“It will be a shame for us not to have the opportunity to live with the emotions of great sport. To all those who cheered for us to extend our heartfelt thanks for the support and continuous dialogue in this exciting adventure come to an end. Thank you all ”
The last few weeks have seen the start of a major shift in the balance of power in sports rights.
Last week, Sky Italia emerged as the major winner after Italy’s re-run Serie A auction The broadcaster has secured 266 games per season for three years from 2018/19.
Fox Sports will disappear as of June 30.
