France Télévisions, M6 and TF1 have announced plans to launch a new OTT platform.
The subscription-based SALTO will bring together public and commercial broadcasters and existing online services MYTF1, 6Play and France.tv.
An independent company will be established to run the platform that will also be open to other broadcasters.
“This project is for the TF1 Group a strong commitment to openness and strategic cooperation with both the French and European major players,” said Gilles Pélisson, Chairman and CEO of TF1. “This will give us in the future all the weapons to face our challenges and we always will effectively meet the expectations of our public.”
“Faced with the global platforms, SALTO will provide a high quality service to all our public and expose the best of French and European creation”, added Delphine Ernotte Cunci, President, France Télévisions.
SALTO will screen a mix of sports, entertainment French drama, US series, documentaries and movies.
It will also develop its own French and European content.
