With growth fuelled by the demand for triple-play services and premium content, the Balkan market of Bosnia and Herzegovina has grown by 60% over the last five years.
The pay-TV penetration has reached 74% as of year-end 2017, according to the latest report from Kagan, S&P Global Market Intelligence.
Like in neighbouring Serbia, cable is the leading platform in the country. The development of direct-to-home satellite was limited by the small size of the market.
The successful IPTV rollouts by Mtel (Telekom Srbija a.d. Beograd), BH Telecom and HT Mostar have slowed growth in the cable subscriber base.
Those two wireline platforms constitute 82% of the market, while DTH stagnated in 2017. Bosnia and Herzegovina ended 2017 with 1.1 million TV households, of which 784,400 subscribed to multichannel services provided by 41 operators.
