The removal of children’s channel France 4 from the DTT network is one of a series of government proposals aimed at French public service broadcasting.
Addressing the leaders of the country’s public broadcasters today (Monday, June 4), minister of culture Françoise Nyssen asked for a significant increase in the number of regional programmes carried by France 3.
The removal of France 4 is not an abandonment of the youth sector – far from it – with the six French public broadcasters being charged with expanding the reach of the 15-30 years through online offerings, backed by the creation of a €150 million digital fund.
The plan to increase the amount of daily regional output on France 3 from the present two hours will be achieved in part through co-operation between the France Télévisions station and radio network France Bleu. A new daily morning show will shortly launch in two regions, broadcast across radio, television and social media.
