Russia’s pay-TV market grew by only 2.5% in 2017, with the number of homes receiving services at year’s end amounting to 41.9 million.
According to 3D News and AKTR, quoting data produced by J’son & Partners Consulting, around 42.6% of subscribers opted for cable TV services. Satellite TV’s share was meanwhile 39.6% and IPTV claimed around 17.7%.
Revenues from basic pay-TV services in 2017 stood at R83.4 billion (€1.16 billion), or 8.8% more than a year earlier, while those for additional services such as VOD grew by 40.7% to R3.8 billion.
Tricolor TV remained the market leader in terms of subscriber numbers, with a share of 29.3%.
It was followed by Rostelecom and ER Telecom (Dom.ru), with shares of 23.3% and 7.7% respectively.
