Four of the newest DTT channels in Spain have barely exceeded an audience share of 0.5% two years after their launch.
According to El Economista, in the case of two – Ten and Be Mad – they have also had to resort to US and Australian docudramas after having initially offered their own productions.
Real Madrid TV meanwhile claimed an audience share of 0.3% and Dkiss, which offers US programming from Discovery, reached a still disappointing 0.8%.
Only one of the new DTT channels – Atreseries, from Atresmedia, has breached the 1% barrier, claiming an audience share of 1.2% in April.
El Economista notes that the new DTT channels in Spain operate in a market in which 90% of ad revenue goes to Mediaset and Atresmedia.
They also face new competition from thematic channels from pay-TV operators, which have a combined audience share of 7.7%.
