Amazon now open to pay-TV integration

Amazon’s director of Prime Video Channels and Sports has signalled a change of direction in the company’s distribution policy.

While Amazon’s on demand movie service – bundled with its express parcel delivery – has been found on Android-enabled TV sets, the Apple TV box, and its own Fire TV products it hasn’t really made the leap towards the pay-TV sector that has seemingly welcomed in rival Netflix.

Richard Au told Fierce Cable’s pay-TV show in Denver that the company would be open to integrating its Prime Video service on pay-TV platform, adding that Amazon was not trying to replace traditional TV.

In addition to on demand movie and series Amazon also offers Amazon Prime Channels that have attracted content from Discovery, Eurosport and Viacom amongst others.

This week,  BT TV announced that it would be including Amazon Prime as part of a new all-encompassing video strategy.
