German media company Freenet Group is entering the competitive video-on-demand (VOD) market.
Freenet Video offers more than 1,000 movies and series from various genres for a subscription fee of €4.99 per month. The minimum contract duration is one month, the first month is available for €0.99.
Around 8,000 additional films and series can be rented and purchased. All content is offered in HD quality and can be used on up to five devices per account, for example a smart TV set, smartphone, tablet, PC or laptop.
“Our product offers a first-class price/performance ratio. We want to address customers who previously thought that streaming services were not very attractive to them, both in terms of price and offer,” said Patrick Gehl, head of digital lifestyle at Freenet.
Freenet has commissioned German media group Splendid to compile and operate the service. Splendid subsidiary Videociety provides technical services and supplies the films on the basis of its meinVoD platform. The cooperation will run for at least five years.
Freenet Video is accessible at www.freenet-video.de. It will become available in all 560 shops of the Freenet group and in affiliated stores from May 22, 2018.
