Rakuten TV brings Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos to smart TVs

Streaming T-VOD service Rakuten TV will be offering movies to rent or buy that offer Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos on LG smart TVs.

The new app, launching on LG 4K Dolby Vision HDR and Atmos enabled OLED and SUHD TVs, will debut with a catalogue of around 25 titles, but it hopes to have 100 or so available before the end of the year.

The first slate of Dolby-enabled movies will be available in the UK, Spain, Italy, Germany and France, with 12 more countries coming in the future.

Sidharth Jayant, says Rakuten’s mission is to deliver a premium cinema experience in the home. “The only way we can do it is merging content and technology in a unique formula and with premium partners allowing us to realise it.”

Titles available on Dolby Vision and Atmos include Blade Runner 2049, Flatliners 2017, 2012, 5th Wave, Baby Driver, Bad Boys 2, Billy Lynn Halftime Walk, Elysium, Emoji movie, Inferno, Life, Passengers, Pixels, Resident Evil Final Chapter. Titles are available to rent or buy.
