Ukraine’s National Council has added Spike to the list of foreign channels allowed to be distributed in the country.
In a statement, it says that the channel, which is operated by MTV Networks Europe, has been found to be in compliance with the requirements of the European Convention on Transfrontier Television and Ukrainian legislation.
Spike is licensed in the Czech Republic and will broadcast for 24 hours a day in Ukrainian, offering viewers a mix of mostly US entertainment shows and films.
Sergei Kostinsky, a member of the National Council, said that Spike is one of the few foreign TV channels that appeals to the regulator for adaption to the Ukrainian market as it already has a Ukrainian soundtrack.
As such, it will hopefully set an example to other foreign channels trying to enter the Ukrainian market.
