Dr Michael Rombach will become the new production director of German public broadcaster ZDF on January 1, 2019.
At its most recent meeting in Berlin, the ZDF board of directors followed the proposal by general director Dr Thomas Bellut. Rombach is currently Production Director of NDR, the affiliate of public broadcaster ARD serving Northern Germany. He will succeed Dr Andreas Bereczky who will retire at the end of the year.
“Michael Rombach is a recognised and respected expert in digital media production. He has all the skills needed to manage and further develop our increasingly networked infrastructure: In addition to his technical know-how, Rombach is a successful manager of complex technological challenges, he knows the realities of a public media company and is a good communicator,” said Bellut.
Rombach added: “I’m looking forward to being able to play an active role in shaping ZDF’s development in the areas of production, IT and distribution in a time full of challenges and opportunities from next year.”
Rombach, who previously worked at SWR, has been Production Director of NDR since 2007. He is also deputy chairman of the supervisory boards of Studio Hamburg and NDR Media and a member of the executive board of industry association Deutsche TV-Plattform.
