German cable operator Unitymedia will launch its first commercial Gigabit internet service based on DOCSIS 3.1 on May 7, 2018 in the city Bochum.
More than 170,000 households – corresponding with 90% of all Bochum households – will be able to surf the Internet through the upgraded cable network at 1Gbps speed.
Bochum will be Unitymedia’s first Gigabit city, further deployments throughout the cable company’s footprint are to follow.
