Lithuania’s Radio and Television Commission (LRTK) is set to fine the cable operator Init for violating its ruling on the retransmission of the Russian channel RTR Planeta.
In a statement, the regulator says that it imposed the ban, which also applies to other versions of the channel such as Rossiya RTR, for a period of 12 months on February 23 this year.
Init appealed against the decision to the Vilnius Regional Administrative Court but it was found in a planned inspection on March 1 that it was still retransmitting Rossiya RTR.
LRTK says that it is legally allowed to impose a fine of up to 3% of the total annual retransmission revenues from the previous business year on companies that do not comply with its decisions.
If it is difficult or impossible to calculate gross revenues, it can impose a fine of up to €100,000.
