The €3.5 billion of Irish telco Eir by the French private investment firm has been completed.
Xavier Niel’s vehicle already owns the French telco Iliad behind the Free brand.
David McRedmond, non-executive chairman, Eir said: “The company will benefit greatly from having such a high calibre board of directors with strong Irish roots, a deep understanding of the Irish rural and urban landscape, specific knowledge of the company and extensive telecommunications expertise. The board will work closely with the management team to ensure the future success of the company.”
Carolan Lennon, previously managing director of Eir’s networks and wholesale division, has been appointed as the new chief executive officer.
Eir was previously held by an investor group including Anchorage Capital Group, Davidson Kempner Capital Management LP, GIC and management.
