Rambler Group has acquired the Russian OTT service Okko.
Kommersant reports that under the terms of the “cash-strapped deal”, Ekaterina Lapshina, who owns Era Capital, which previously backed Okko, will receive a minority stake in Rambler Group.
The latter’s interests include the cinema chains Cinema Park and Formula Cinema.
Okko was launched in 2011 and was initially called Yota Play. It had been owned by Era Capital since only late last year, having previously attracted interest from VimpelCom.
Unlike most other OTT services in Russia, Okko does not carry advertising.
