HD Austria reaches 125,000 customers

March 21, 2018 08.30 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

HD Austria, M7 Group’s hybrid DTH television platform for Austria on Astra (19.2° East), now reaches 125,000 customers.

This represents an all-time record growth of 25% during the last 12 months, according to M7 Group. Furthermore, HD Austria represents more than 50% of all Austrian sales of conditional access (CA) modules with cards or cardless technology, reports the platform operator with reference to GfK figures.

With 58% of all homes using satellite for television reception, Austria is after Ireland the country with the highest percentage of satellite TV users in Europe, leaving ample room for further growth, according to M7 Group.

Furthermore, the high market penetration of fast internet usage provides growth potential for HD Austria’s hybrid proposition which combines linear satellite television with IP-based interactive services.

“In order to receive the largest offer of HD channels in Austria, via satellite and OTT, more and more Austrian satellite TV homes are replacing their classic ORF smartcard for HD Austria as their platform provider of choice,” said Martijn van Hout, Director of HD Austria. “The 25% HD Austria subscriber growth over last year is a clear illustration of this trend, triggered by a new range of innovative hybrid services and our excellent HD channel line-up.”

HD Austria which launched in 2010 using the AustriaSat brand recently added seven new pay-TV channels to its platform. 2017 marked the launch of its first Ultra HD channel, Insight TV UHD, as part of a platform deal with M7 Group.

In February 2018, M7 Group entered the German DTH market with its hybrid Diveo platform on Astra.
