ProSiebenSat.1 and Discovery expand streaming joint venture

March 20, 2018 09.17 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

7TV, the joint German streaming platform operated by ProSiebenSat.1 and Discovery, has added sports channel Sport1, news channel WELT (formerly N24) and documentary channel N24 Doku to its line-up.

The agreement which covers both the linear TV channels as livestreams and catch-up content marks the first time ProSiebenSat.1 and Discovery add third-party channels to their joint venture. With 7TV, the two media companies aim to create a platform offering a wide range of channels and content to consumers on a single app.

“The new content partners underscore our persistent strategy of an open approach and our endeavour to create the VOD platform for German speaking TV content and live TV for all digital channels through 7TV,” said Alexander Vassilev, CEO of 7TV.

Daniel von Busse, COO TV and Member of the Executive Board of Sport1, added: “With the expansion of 7TV, we are backing up our claim of providing video services such as our free-to-air TV channel and select video content as comprehensively as possible via many relevant players.”

Dr Torsten Rossmann, Managing Director of WeltN24, said: “For us, the availability of our stations on relevant, user-friendly platforms is beneficial both from a user and a business perspective.”

7TV is also expanding its management by appointing Alexander von Woikowsky as Chief Content Officer and Managing Director of 7TV to oversee partnerships and distribution. He joins the service from ProSiebenSat.1 where he has worked as a Director of Key Account Management in the distribution department.

7TV which launched in October 2017 also includes Sat.1, ProSieben, kabel eins, DMAX, sixx, ProSieben Maxx, Sat.1 Gold, kabel eins Doku and TLC. There is also a Eurosport zone with sports highlights and videos. The offer is free-of-charge and ad-supported.
