The Romanian regulator ANCOM has launched a public consultation to gauge market interest in the allocation of spectrum available in the VHF and UHF bands for DTT services.
In a statement, it says that in the case of the VHF band, Romania obtained a national DVB-T multiplex, and two national T-DAB multiplexes, following international negotiations. It currently uses the VHF band for analogue TV services and will cease to do so at the end of next year.
What is more, since 2014 it has held four successive DTT auctions for the VHF band (174-230 MHz), together with a national and several regional UHF band (470-694 MHz) multiplexes, and to date no operator has shown any interest in acquiring them.
ANCOM points out that following its international co-ordination actions, existing regional multiplexes, together with newly acquired multiplexes, can be made into a national multiplex.
The public consultation is inviting views from interested parties, with the deadline being April 11.
