Free TF1 channels to return across Canal+

March 11, 2018 18.48 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Canal+ has signalled its intention to restore channels from the TF1 Group to its subscribers, but only when they are distributed free-to-air.

In a statement the French pay-TV platform said that having confirmed the distribution of free channels would remain free of charge and that only complementary services, such as catch up and start over could be paid for it had decided to gradually resume the distribution of free channels of the TF1 Group.

“Subscribers to Canal offers are not intended to pay for free-to-air channels that have obtained free frequencies from the French State,” Canal said.

On Friday it was agreed that TF1’s linear signal would be restored all TF1 Group free channels on ADSL, Fibre and the Internet would return.

Earlier in the week Canal recommenced transmission of TF1 over satellite, following the intervention of regulator CSA.

Canal says it is willing to negotiate with TF1 over its paid services on a reasonable and non-discriminatory basis. It’s looking for terms similar to those already reached with other distributors.
