TRT World launches on Freesat

March 1, 2018 19.34 Europe/London By Robert Briel

TRT World has launched on the UK’s subscription-free satellite TV platform, Freesat, in SD and HD.

Since its launch in 2015, TRT World broadcasts in the English language to communicate a Turkish perspective on current affairs to a global audience; the channel hopes to encourage dialogue between viewers, offering a different viewpoint on current affairs.

TRT World, in addition to on-the-ground reporting, also has a wide variety of in-studio programming. Showcase covers the arts and culture scene. Money Talks features in-depth reports and analysis on the financial world. Beyond The Game covers sporting events.

“We are pleased to announce the signing of this agreement with Freesat,” said Murat Akguc, Managing Director at TRT World.

“TRT World is strengthening its worldwide position as a global news organization and this deal will enable us to reach out to UK homes to provide an alternative viewpoint on world events, challenging perceived narratives and providing a much-needed perspective on news. We will continue to bring the news directly to our audience, wherever they are and in whichever way they prefer to receive it”

Alistair Thom, managing director at Freesat, said: “We’re very pleased to have TRT World join our catalogue of channels here at Freesat. In coming to our platform, TRT World joins the likes of CNN and Al-Jazeera in providing our viewers with an international perspective on news and current affairs from both home and abroad. We look forward to a fruitful and long-lasting partnership between the two of us.”
