SVOD services are now seen as the biggest threat to Polish pay-TV operators.
The findings of a two-part study by ScreenLovers on the country’s pay-TV market, in this instance gauging the views of distribution specialists, indicate that half of operators see such services, which include the newcomers Netflix and Showmax, as their biggest challengers.
Next up is DTT, which 27% see as a threat, while barely a fifth regard other pay-TV operators as competition.
Significantly, 57% expect to see cord cutting in the future. Moreover, despite this few (18%) believe it will be countered by the introduction of à la carte services.
A significantly greater proportion of respondents (64%) also say that Netflix would prove to be the winner in its battle with Showmax (18%).
