Magyar Telekom’s high-speed, fixed broadband network is now available in more than 3 million households.
An additional 270,000 were added to the total in 2017, with 40% of new homes capable of receiving gigabit internet at up to 2,000Mbps.
All told, some 800,000 homes are now gigabit capable.
Magyar Telekom aims to extend its network to an additional 300,000 homes this year, almost all of which (98%) will be gigabit capable.
Although the Hungarian incumbent is relying principally on its own resources, it has also been awarded EU support of HUF11.5 billion (€36.9 million) for 44 districts covered by the network, which offers internet access speeds of at least 30Mbps.
