The merger between Modern Times Group’s Entertainment and Studios businesses and Danish telco TDC is off before it was hardly on.
In a statement from the Stockholm-based company on Monday, MTG said TDC’s board of directors intended to withdraw its recommendation to combine its Nordic Entertainment and MTG Studios businesses.
This morning Swedish financial daily Dagens Industri reported Sweden’s Telia had approached TDC with a potential bid.
Only last Wednesday. The Nasdaq OMX Copenhagen listed TDC received a bid from the Australian infrastructure group Macquarie and three Danish pension funds; PFA Pension and Forsikringsselskab, PKA and ATP.
The offer was rejected but in the process TDC shares jumped by 20 per cent.
The proposal to merge the MTG businesses with TDC was made on February 1.
It would have created an integrated consumer offering in Denmark and Norway with a pan Nordic footprint – comprising fixed line and mobile telephony, broadband internet access, TV distribution and streaming services.
