NPO opts for DVB-T2/HEVC for DTT

February 5, 2018 09.16 Europe/London By Robert Briel

The Dutch public broadcaster NPO will also change to DVB-T2/HEVC for its free-to-air DTT transmissions.

Although the broadcaster itself has not officially announced the switch-over from DVB-T to the new standard, the news can be deducted from KPN communication to its Digitenne DTT customers.

Meanwhile, KPN has now started supplying new receivers to its customers. The platform has chosen ZTE as its supplier for the new sets; KPN already uses ZTE for its 4K Ultra HD-decoder used for the Interactieve IPTV service.

The ZTE receivers are also capable of receiving DVB-T signals, so there is no need for simulcasting and can be opted for a hard switchover date when all sets have been replaced.

KPN hopes to have completed the whole switch-over process by April 2019.
